Kim’s gift inspirations
May your gift-giving be inspirational
With the holidays around the corner, I thought I’d share a list of potential gifts that I love and highly recommend. Here are some of the items that have helped me grow Kim Bensing Design and Studio Sprig or have inspired me to design with passion.
Bouquet Bar: Give the gift of a bouquet bar at your next event. It’s the perfect way to celebrate, have fun and design something beautiful with close friends and family. Here are some essential items you’ll need to set it up and I also have a full-page dedicated to bouquet bar building if you need more.
Buckets for the Bar
Mini water cans
Floral paper plates
Glass vases for guests
Scissors for each guest
Cut flower food packets
And to make things very easy for your guests, Create baby registry or wedding registry while you’re here.
Baby: If I could do it all over again with my little sprout above, I’d choose this Wildflower onesie. And check out this newborn swaddle set by Life Tree. Here’s a precious sleep gown and headband with bold florals.
Good Books: When I launched Studio Sprig in 2016, I reached out to a local flower grower who encouraged me to educate myself about the industry because horticulture was not my formal education. She recommended I read the book Flower Confidential, an eye-opening read.
Here are three really nice books for that someone who wants to start growing and creating with flowers.
Floret Farm’s Cut Flower Garden
Floret Farm’s A Year in Flowers
Floret Farm’s Discovering Dahlias

Pressing Flowers: Very recently I purchased this nifty little 11”x 11” flower press because I wanted to dry and press my own flowers. I love this press because it doesn’t take up a lot of room and I can even keep it pressing on a small table in my dining room because it’s attractive and it doesn’t look out of place. It comes with 10 layers (you can purchase more) and it really works nicely.
Garden Tools: When gardening or designing weddings, one thing I can’t live without is my coveted garden snips. I have three pairs and I carry them with me everywhere. Plus the bright red handle is great because I often accidentally set them down in green grass and the little strap around the handle is a game changer. Great Stocking stuffer!
Artistic: I just found this travel watercolor set which is nice and tiny to take to a field when painting plein air but also lovely to just keep on hand for when you want to enhance your small sketches. Pair it with a watercolor paper tablet and you have a complete gift for anyone keeping colorful records of their flower journey.
Home: This winter at Windy Hill farm, I filled my front porch urns with these classic Faux Norfolk Pines that I actually found on Amazon after searching many more prestigious sights. I love how real they look from the road and they were so simple to fluff out and place in my urns. They make changing the seasons so effortless.
Here are a few more ways we live a simple life here a Windy Hill. I start every single day with 2 cups of coffee made in my french press. There’s truly nothing like it. And when tidying up, I use these simple, french-inspired dishcloths to cut down on my paper waste consumption. I find these to be pretty enough to keep out all day. They also make very nice placemats for a bouquet bar. Then each person can take a french dishcloth home.
Please visit periodically as I’ll update and add as requests come in. Thank you and happy gift-giving. - Kim
